What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy in Novi, MI Banner

What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?

PRP therapy involves using a concentrated portion of a patient’s own blood that contains a higher level of platelets. These platelets carry special proteins and growth factors found naturally in the body that play a key role in the body’s healing process. When applied to targeted areas, the platelets help stimulate new tissue formation by signaling the body to repair and regenerate cells. This treatment utilizes the body’s own biological components to support natural rejuvenation and cellular repair.

Our PRP Treatment Areas

Tired eyes, fine lines, and dark circles are some of the most common concerns our patients share. PRP therapy helps:
This natural, non-surgical approach rejuvenates delicate under-eye skin with your body’s own growth factors – no fillers required.
Hair thinning or early hair loss can be distressing – but regenerative treatments like PRP can help revitalize dormant follicles and improve hair density.
When used consistently in a customized treatment plan, PRP can encourage thicker, fuller, healthier hair.
Pairing PRP with Morpheus8 takes collagen induction therapy to the next level. Following your Morpheus8 session, growth factors are applied or injected to accelerate healing, reduce downtime, and amplify skin-tightening and resurfacing results.

Before & After

PRP Procedure

The PRP treatment process begins with a consultation where our provider reviews your medical history and discusses your goals for the procedure. This step ensures that the treatment plan is tailored to your needs and that you understand what to expect throughout the entire procedure. The consultation also provides an opportunity to address any questions about how PRP works and the areas that can be treated.
During this phase, a normal blood specimen is drawn from the patient, similar to a routine blood test. This sample contains both platelets and the remaining blood components that will later be separated to prepare the PRP solution. The collection is quick and typically involves minimal discomfort.
Once the blood is collected, it is placed into a centrifuge machine that spins the sample at high speed. This separates the platelet-rich portion from the platelet-poor plasma and other remaining blood components. The result is a high concentration of platelets and growth factors that will be used for treatment.
Before the injection, a local anesthetic may be applied to the treatment area to ensure comfort. The PRP is carefully prepared, and proper needle placement ensures the solution is delivered precisely where it is needed. This step is crucial for maximizing the effectiveness of the treatment.
Finally, the PRP is injected into the targeted area using the techniques planned during preparation. The high concentration of platelets and specialized proteins stimulates the body’s natural healing process and supports the formation of new tissue. Each step is performed carefully to ensure safety and effectiveness throughout the entire procedure.

Post-Procedural Care

After PRP treatment, most patients experience mild swelling or tenderness at the injection site as the body begins its natural healing process. It is common to apply cold compresses to reduce discomfort and minimize inflammation. Prescribed pain medications or over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications can help alleviate painful symptoms and support faster healing.
Patients should avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for several days to prevent increased pain. However, taking light walks around the home is a good way to avoid forming blood clots. Returning to normal activities should be done gradually following the guidance of our provider.
While the procedure is generally safe, being aware of potential risks and carefully following post-procedural instructions helps ensure optimal results and recovery.

Ideal candidates are those in good overall health who are seeking a natural approach to stimulate the body’s healing process and encourage new tissue formation. A thorough consultation helps determine whether PRP is an appropriate option based on individual goals, medical history, and skin or hair condition.

Benefits of PRP Treatment

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

PRP is generally considered safe because it uses the patient’s own biological material. Blood consists of three main solid components: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, along with a liquid component known as blood plasma. The platelet-rich portion is carefully separated and injected into targeted areas, often with the aid of ultrasound guidance to ensure precise placement. Platelets contain insulin-like growth factors that support healing and tissue regeneration. While the procedure is minimally invasive and associated with minimal risks, proper technique and an experienced provider are essential for optimal results. Adequate preparation can help avoid side effects, such as scar tissue calcification.
Yes, PRP injections can support hair growth and help prevent hair loss by improving blood circulation in the scalp. The platelets play a key role in stimulating hair follicles, promoting stronger and thicker hair over time. Consistent treatment can enhance the health of hair and slow the progression of thinning.
Results from PRP therapy vary depending on the area treated and individual healing response. Many patients notice gradual improvements as the treatment stimulates the body’s natural regenerative processes. Over several weeks, the platelet-rich plasma activates cells with greater healing properties, supporting tissue renewal and improvement in skin texture, hair growth, or joint function.
PRP is used in several orthopaedic conditions where the injured part benefits from enhanced healing. It can support tendon injuries, ligament sprains, and help protect adjacent nerves during recovery. PRP promotes cell growth in affected areas, which can help delay joint replacement surgeries and support the repair of large veins or damaged tissues. Its crucial role in tissue regeneration makes it a versatile option for treating injuries and conditions that require targeted healing in musculoskeletal structures.
