When you have dermal injectable fillers, it means that you’ve received treatment underneath your skin to reduce lines and fill in volume. These dermal fillers are either made from natural or synthetic ingredients and can be temporary or permanent.

Injectables are an umbrella term for many of the treatments that prevent wrinkles from forming, reduce the appearance of ones already there, and improve the effects of both facial fat loss and reduced collagen.

Injectable fillers are one type of injectable treatment. They treat static lines such as facial wrinkles on the cheeks and lips.

Botox is an FDA-approved neuromodulator, which means that it affects the nerve communication between the brain and the muscles around the injection site. Botox stands for botulinum toxin A, which is a frozen bacteria that is injected around the facial muscles. This frozen bacteria lasts for a few months and prevents the brain from sending signals to the muscles so they don’t move.

Injectable dermal fillers, on the other hand, add volume to the face where facial wrinkles have already formed. These are often made with synthetic forms of naturally occurring substances, like hyaluronic acid. Over time, the body reabsorbs these substances, so the effects of dermal fillers aren’t permanent.

Even with the most qualified cosmetic surgeon, sometimes FDA-approved dermal filler injections can have undesirable side effects or can end up giving undesirable results. In these cases, it is possible to remove filler injections.

To do this, your provider will inject another substance, called hyaluronidase, into your skin. This dissolves the dermal filler to bring your skin back to its natural state.
