What Is a Breast Lift?

A mastopexy is a surgical procedure that involves removing excess skin and reshaping the breast tissue to lift and firm the breasts. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia, which means the patient is completely unconscious during surgery.

Types of Breast Lifts

There are several types of breast lift incisions, depending on the extent of lift needed, the patient’s anatomy, and breast skin sagginess.
The anchor lift is the most common type of breast lift. This technique involves making an incision around the areola, a second incision vertically down the breast, and a third incision along the breast’s natural crease. This incision pattern allows for the greatest amount of lift and reshaping of the breast, making it ideal for women with moderate to severe sagging.
The crescent lift involves making an incision along the top half of the areola, allowing for a slight breast lift. This breast lift technique best suits women with a breast asymmetry or minor sagging.

The lollipop lift involves making an incision around the areola and a second incision that extends vertically down the breast. This technique is best suited for women with moderate sagging, as it allows for a lift and reshaping of the breast while minimizing the scarring.

The lollipop lift involves making an incision around the areola and a second incision that extends vertically down the breast. This technique is best suited for women with moderate sagging, as it allows for a lift and reshaping of the breast while minimizing the scarring.

The donut lift, also known as a periareolar or Benelli lift, involves making an incision around the areola. This technique is best suited for women with minimal excess skin, as it allows for a subtle lift and reduces the areola size.
Good Candidate

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?

Good candidates for a breast lift are generally healthy women unhappy with the appearance of their sagging or drooping breasts. Sagging breasts can occur due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, aging, or genetics.

Ideal candidates for a breast lift may have one or more of the following concerns:
It is important to note that a breast lift will not significantly change the size of the breasts, so women who are looking for a more dramatic change in breast size may want to consider a breast augmentation or reduction surgery.

Breast Lift Recovery

The recovery period is an important time for the body to heal and adjust to the changes made during the procedure. The recovery process can vary from person to person, but generally, it takes several weeks to recover fully.

You may experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising around the breasts, which can be managed with pain medication. You will need to wear a surgical bra for several weeks to help support your breasts as they heal. You should avoid strenuous activity, lifting heavy objects, and exercise for at least six weeks following the procedure.

Tips for a smooth recovery include staying hydrated, eating a healthy diet, getting plenty of rest, and avoiding smoking and alcohol. Our plastic surgeon will provide crucial post-operative care instructions for a smooth and successful recovery.

The Decision to Have a Breast Lift

The Decision to Have a Breast Lift

Deciding to have a breast lift is a personal choice that requires careful consideration. Before undergoing the procedure, there are several important factors to consider.
First, it is essential that you have a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. During this consultation, your surgeon will assess your overall health, medical history, and breast anatomy to determine if a breast lift is appropriate for you.
It is also important to understand the risks and benefits associated with the procedure. While a breast lift can improve breast shape and firmness, it also carries some risk of complications – as with any other surgical procedure – such as bleeding, infection, changes in nipple or breast sensation, asymmetry, and scarring. Understanding the breast lift risks can help you make an informed decision about whether a breast lift is right for you.
Another important consideration is setting realistic expectations. While a breast lift can improve the appearance of your breasts, it does not guarantee perfection. It is important to have realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure and to understand that your breasts will continue to age over time.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Breast lift surgeries lift sagging breasts, while breast augmentation increases the size of the breasts. They are two different procedures that can be done separately or in combination.
A breast lift can make your breasts appear fuller and more youthful but does not significantly increase their size. If you want to increase your breast size, you may want to consider a breast augmentation.
It is possible to experience some temporary loss of sensation in the nipples and breast skin after a breast lift. However, this is usually temporary and typically returns within a few weeks to a few months.
The duration of a breast lift procedure varies depending on the extent of the lift required and the technique used. Typically, this breast surgery procedure takes 2–4 hours.
You will need to avoid strenuous physical activity for 4-6 weeks after a breast lift surgery to allow for proper healing.
Yes, it is possible to have a breast lift if you have breast implants. In some cases, a breast lift may be recommended if breast implants have caused your breasts to sag.
The effects of a breast lift are long-lasting, but they are not permanent. Over time, your breasts may begin to sag again due to the natural aging process or other factors. However, many women have been satisfied with the breast lift results for many years.
A breast lift may affect your breastfeeding ability, especially if the procedure involves removing excess breast tissue. However, many women are still able to breastfeed after a breast lift. Discussing your breastfeeding goals with your surgeon before the procedure is important.
A breast lift may affect your breastfeeding ability, especially if the procedure involves removing excess breast tissue. However, many women are still able to breastfeed after a breast lift. Discussing your breastfeeding goals with your surgeon before the procedure is important.
Most patients experience some discomfort and soreness after a breast lift procedure. Your surgeon will prescribe pain medication to help manage your discomfort.
A breast lift can remove some excess skin and tissue, which may result in a slight reduction in breast size. However, the primary goal of a breast lift is to lift sagging breasts, not to reduce their size.
During a breast lift procedure, excess skin and tissue are removed, and the remaining tissue is reshaped and lifted to create a more youthful and lifted appearance.
A number of factors, including aging, pregnancy, breast cancer-related treatments, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, and genetics, can cause saggy breasts. The natural aging process and loss of skin elasticity are the most common causes of sagging breasts.
Breast reduction reduces the size and weight of overly large breasts by removing excess breast tissue, fat, and skin. On the other hand, a breast lift aims to lift sagging breasts and improve the breast shape and breast contour by removing extra skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. The lift surgery does not involve removing any breast tissue or reducing breast size.
